Paolo Eleuteri Serpieri was born in Venice in 1944, but spent most of his life in Rome. He studied architecture and painting at the Fine Arts Academy in Rome and was a pupil of Renato Guttuso. In 1966, he pursued a career in painting, achieving much acclaim from the critics. In 1975, he finally ventured into the field of comics. Together with writer Raffaele Ambrosio, he created a series of stories about the history of the West, published in the magazines LancioStory and Skorpio. Some memorable titles are 'L'Indiana Bianca' and 'L'Uomo di Medicina'. From 1980 Paolo Serpieri also participated in the Larousse cillections like 'L'Histoire du Far-West' and 'Découvrir la Bible', while also making short stories for magazines like L'Eternauta, Il Fumetto and Orient-Express.
By 1985, he radically changed styles and created the saga of 'Druuna', of which many titles appeared through the 1990s: 'Morbus Gravis', 'Creatura', 'Carnivora', 'Mandragora', 'Aphrodisia', 'Obsession', 'Druuna X' and 'Croquis'. The stories were serialized in English in Heavy Metal magazine. These erotic/galactic epics became a great success, selling more than a million issues in twelve languages. Serpieri's depiction of the well-endowed heroine has earned him the undisputed title of the "Master of the Ass".
In 2007, he worked with the French scriptwriter Jean Dufaux for the first time on the sci-fi album 'Les Enfers', that was published by Robert Laffont. They resumed their collaboration in 2012 with the creation of the futuristic Venice series 'Saria' for Éditions Delcourt in France. He is also a teacher with the Roman Art Institute.
